As a follow-up to our MO-st Wonderful Time of the Year blog post, we give you the Movember 2012 wrap-up. Almost two weeks into December, I have to say I’m starting to miss seeing those Mo’s around. Whether you were rocking a Fu Manchu or chocolate milk ‘Stache, you 1.1 million participating Mo Bros and Mo Sistas knocked it out of the park with a record-breaking year.
We can’t report on the total funds raised just yet because donations continue to pour in after the campaign and financials aren’t available until April, but we can report a few impressive stats:
- The campaign attracted more than 3.6 million individual donations
- There were over 270,000 new participants this year (There weren’t even this many participants in the campaign”s 7th year!)
- Canada killed it as the #1 country so far on the leaderboards, almost 8 million dollars ahead of the UK, the second-place country (May I add that the population of the UK is almost double the population of Canada?)
The bottom line here is that the creators really tapped into what it requires to take a seemingly-unsexy cause like prostate cancer and make it “sexy”. The top-notch creative paired with hilarious, risk-taking humour is what really propelled the campaign across every imaginable social media platform and made it what it is today. This is the type of stuff that goes viral quickly, and soon you”ve got over $124 million raised. Movember is officially a cool cause to participate in and as a cause with people lining up to participate, what more could you ask for?
The team at Movember thought up and executed countless initiatives that were too fun not to participate in which really drove a lot of hype. The Movember awards (the Moscars of course) was one of those initiatives, and if you”re looking for a break in your workday, we give you the winner of the 2012 Moscars:
