When Deborah Aarts from the Globe and Mail asked us to apply, I was a little skeptical.
“Stryve is a candidate for Canada’s list of Top Growing Companies?” I said. “Are you sure?”
Now, don’t get me wrong. I think Stryve is the best company in the world. We do great work for great organizations. I’ve just always thought Canada’s Top Growing Companies list was reserved for big guys like Shopify and hot start-ups developing jetpacks for space tourism. I was amazed to be considered at all.
When I asked Deborah how the Globe and Mail found us, she told me about their research team. They identify likely candidates and she follows up with a formal application. She also requests financial reports dating back to 2016 so they can verify our three-year revenue growth. In short, they do their due diligence to ensure their list is valid and based on the numbers. This is not a popularity contest or an empty attempt at generating web traffic. This is a legitimate designation and we couldn’t be more proud.
In the application we were asked to explain what contributed to our growth. We’ve always thought of Stryve as Mad Men meets Moneyball, able to talk business objectives, design, and campaigns, while also being well-versed in data, analytics, and code. This approach, along with systems and processes that keep us on top of industry developments and trends, has been the catalyst to our list-worthy growth. To us, it’s never been about head-count, either. We base our success on revenue per employee. That means strategically forming a full-stack team that allows us to work smart and run lean.
As recognized this year by the Globe and Mail, Stryve has officially been named one of Canada’s Top Growing Companies. While unexpected, it’s an honour that proves you don’t need a headcount in the hundreds or an office in Toronto’s skyline to be among the countries best. Thank you to all of our clients, partners, and vendors who have contributed to our success. We look forward to continuing on this journey with you.
