So you’re thinking about applying to be a Digital Marketing Coordinator. It’s the gig I started out at, and I’m involved in bringing in new Marketing Coordinators too. So it’s safe to say that I know a lot about how to get the job. And I’m going to tell you everything.
Make Sure You Actually Want to Work Here
We’re a pretty unique bunch of people working in a busy yet thrilling industry. Read up on working at an agency. Then throw most of it out of your brain and read what we say and do about it.
Hopefully, you’re not completely terrified by the content (or the amount of reading) and will want to put the time into applying.
Make Sure Your Application Stands Out
Although it boggles our minds a bit, a lot of people apply to work here. But even with our well-exercised marketing brains, we still fall victim to the basic tricks. So apply your marketing skills by getting our attention and keeping it.
Keep it short and sweet
Even if it all fits on one page, I don’t want to read one thousand words of 9pt font. If you can get the same point across with fewer words, do it. Run your cover letter through the Hemingway app to make sure your language is strong and easy to read. Cut out info that’s not relevant to a job in marketing. (I’m looking at you, summer job in high school… see ya!)
Make it beautiful
Marketing Coordinators aren’t expected to be graphic designers, but they do need to have an eye for design. Dedicate some time and energy towards making your resume stand out visually. You don’t even have to start from scratch – there are great resources and sources of inspiration out there.
Be yourself!
Yes, everyone says that. We really mean it. In case you didn’t know, we are looking to hire a human, not a robot – so don’t talk like one. Picture how you’d speak to someone on the phone and write that way. Let your personality show in what you say, but also how you say it.
Highlight your side projects
Additional hustle really buffs up an application and catches our eye. We love it when a potential Marketing Coordinator has non-business skills in something like photography, blogging, or coding. It makes us think about pancakes… because the candidate could be a great full-stack marketer. Sorry, you should read that blog too.
We’ll get in touch with the people we want to talk to. So if you get an email asking for a phone interview, you followed these tips pretty well. Best of luck!
